Home in Oregon

Scappose, St Helens, Warren, Portland, and vicinity

Swollen Creek - The little babbling brook in St. Helens I used to catch crawdads in. It's not babbling at the moment.

Backyard Battle - How would you like this in your backyard? This is the view from Columbia City, about four miles north of St. Helens on Highway 30. This ship wasn't on the way to a battle, though. It was returning its crew from Portland and a little Rose Festival shore leave.

Street Fountains - These public drinking fountains are common around the downtown area in Portland.
Neighborfair - This was a great festival celebrating strong neighborhood identity and ethnic communities in Portland. I don't know if it is still being held.
Paramount - The Paramount sign on Broadway was replaced by the Portland sign that is there now.
Three Bridges - Portland is a city of bridges, here are three of them.
Zooliner - Nifty-cool train that takes you from the zoo, through Washington park, to the Rose Test Garden and the Japanese Garden.
The Old OMSI - This was taken when OMSI was at its old site on top of the hill near the zoo.
Mt. St. Helens from North Portland - The eruption of Mt. St. Helens.

Three Amigos do Portland to the MAX

I was home for Thanksgiving 1998, and hooked up with Kerry and Tom to ride the MAX light rail through Beaverton and Portland, stopping whenever we felt like something needed to be investigated.

View from the top - This was supposed to be the boys showing off the city we love from the top of the US Bank tower, but didn't quite work out because of the reflections off of the window from the inside. I salvaged this composite from the experience, though.
Powell's Technical Bookstore - Geeks drawn to tech mecca?
Powell's city of books - Too bad the entire freakin' world has discovered Powell's. The entire yuppie population of the western US was there that day -- It kind of spoils the quiet "church of books" feel it used to have.
Uncontrollable hopping - Tom deep in the throes of one of his chronic hopping fits.
Patrons of the arts - The boys deeply appreciate all art forms.
Monkeys see - Tragically, life does occasionally imitate art.
24 Hour Church of Elvis - We were on a mission
Portal to another dimension - What happened beyond this point is too terrible to tell (and you would never believe it).
Pioneer Courthouse Square - Tom and Kerry increase entropy where ever they go.
Lloyd Center - All decked out for Christmas.
MAX emerges - This is the zoo station deep underground.
Nice ride - This clean, convenient, safe, cheap transportation thing will never catch on.
After a full day,
Tom and Kerry were ready to go home.
