Disneyland

I think all the kids of the 50's and 60's had a lot of Walt's vision drilled into our skulls via the powerful propaganda machine that was "The Wonderful World of Color". For reasons unknown, it took ahold in some of us a lot deeper and stronger than others.

Transition Point - I have always made it a point to linger on this sign every time I enter the park. It somehow helps make it clear that the mundane world is left behind.
The "New" Tomorrowland - The entrance to the "new" Tomorrowland. I played around with this with PhotoShop a bit.
The Mighty Microscope - Hop aboard your "Atomobile" and shoot through the "Mighty Microscope", it's time for an Adventure Through Inner Space. This was always the attraction that got me in a "Disneyland mood" when I visited the park. Star Tours is here now. Here is a shot I took after it was closed from the PeopleMover.
The Haunted Mansion - One of the last places in the park to remember the way Walt wanted it to be.
Vintage Walt - I always liked this early picture of Walt. It's not travel or leisure, but this seemed like a good place for it.

The Campin' Machine - Here is the Toyota at the Anaheim KOA. I used to spend weeks at a time on the road in this truck sleeping in the back. Good memories. The Anaheim KOA is right across the street from Disneyland, and is nothing but pavement with painted lines marking campsites. It was home though while visiting The Happiest Place on Earth.
German UberTourists - One evening while relaxing at the Anaheim KOA, two huge, red Mercedes buses rolled in. Once they got parked, they became the center of Kampground attention as they transformed into "SuperTourister RVs from hell". Kitchens popped out of one side as people emerged from the other. One whole side flipped up and slid out to make roomier sleeping areas. It was German recreational efficiency exemplified. Turns out it was a tour group from Germany that was leisurely visiting all of North America, and they brought the bus/RVs with them on a freighter. Pretty cool way to travel.

America Sings - Another attraction that isn't there anymore. The stage in the center stood still while the audience moved around it. The audio-animatronic figures live on though as robots in Star Tours and various and sundry Brer Critters in Splash Mountain.
Main Street - Nice shot down Main Street USA with the Cinderella's castle in the distance.
Matterhorn - The Matterhorn when it still had the skyway going through it.
Tomorrowland Mural - Here is part of the mural that was removed during the creation of the new Tomorrowland.
The Old Tomorrowland - The outdated vision of the future.
PeopleMover - After a visit to Adventures Through Inner Space, I always took a PeopleMover ride to get in the Disneyland mood.
Monorail - The monorail system at Disneyland is still one of the coolest rides anywhere. Beautiful, quiet, fast transportation.
Skull Rock - Remember skull rock? Well neither do I, but I took a picture of it so I didn't have to.
Main Street Electrical Parade - Another Disneyland standard gone. Illuminated floats and characters.
Disneyland After Dark - The park is an entirely different proposition after the sun goes down and the lights come on. Familiar things become new and magical.
It's a Small World - It's a world of laughter, a world of fun, it's a dum-dum-dee-dah for everyone. It's a doo-dee-dee-dee-dah-dah-doo hmmm-hmmm-hmmm...
Space Mountain - Turbulent, hah! Turbulent is what you get after a couple of hat dogs at The Space Bar.
Toad Hall - Most "grown-ups" never get to see the amazing stuff in Storybook Land unless their kids show it to them.
