The Virginia Inn Tavern - Friendly, quirky, and un-trendy enough for me to feel comfortable, the VI is a great place if you can find a spot to sit or stand. I was feeling a bit mischievous the last time I went and ordered my drink with the only requirement being that it had to have "muddle the orange" in the recipe. the waitress acted like people order their drinks this way all the time and I got a lip-smakin', nose numbin' Old Fashioned.

Walking Man Brewery - August 2002 - Big beers full flavored Northwest beers can be found at this small well groomed pub on the bank of the Columbia River. All beers are made on site and when I was there included: a Golden ale, Pale ale, Scottish ale, Northwest IPA, Walking Stick Oatmeal Stout, and there most popular beer Homoerectus an Industrial IPA. Beer and wine only.

Cask: nothing when I was there and I don't remember if they had a hand pump.

Not to miss: Walking Stick Stout, Pale Ale, and then the NW IPA.

4oz tasters (10) $8.00 great way to go for a first visit.

12oz glass $2.50

16oz pint $3.00

20oz Imperial Pint $3.50

60oz Pitcher $10.00

Simple food consists of appetizers, salads, and small pizzas with a nice crust but were not very filling for the price ($8). Lots of character for being only 1 year old and some great hopvines growing out front. A little tricky to find as it is on the side of a larger building and is not visible from First St. Park and enter from the street south of First (Railroad maybe). A great place with a fun theme and interesting bathrooms labeled "Reader" and "Dreamer". Turns out I'm a reader. [Thanks again, Nathan!]

Watertown Dance Club and Bar - 09/05/2005 - Doug, Just want to let you know that Watertown bar in Seattle has gone smokefree recently.  It is a danceclub/bar in belltown/queen anne on first ave.  If one was heading west on Denny way they would turn right on first and  Watertown is located on the right hand-side you can't miss it.  I hope that more non-smokers will support the buisness so that they will be around in the future.  Your website has been very helpful. [Thanks Amy]

A nice piece on their transition to smoke-free.

West 5 - 03/09/2004 - The West 5 is West Seattle's newest (possibly only) no smoking cocktail lounge. Its roughly a year old and located in the Junction on the site of what used to be the Hobby Shop. Those aged roughly 50 and under who grew up in West Seattle will surely remember the great slot car race tracks included in the old Hobby Shop.

The name West 5 comes from the first telephone "exchange" used in West Seattle. Does anyone remember when you used to say a name or two letters for the first two numbers when giving a telephone number? Look at the letters on each number of your phone. "west" stood for WE which is 93; "roxbury" stood for 76; "main" stood for 62; etc. In times gone by you probably would have told someone the nunumber of this club by saying "west 5 1966" (935-1966).

Enough of history. Owners Dave Montoure and Dean Overton are true West Seattle boys and have turned the old Hobby Shop into a first rate cocktail lounge! Girls, put on those cocktail dresses! There is of course a complete bar, lots of beer on tap, and a GREAT menu. Believe it or not the Mac and Cheese is my favorite!

With a 60's theme the West 5 is quickly becoming one of THE places to grab a drink in West Seattle. So much so that I recently saw Dave down at the Beveridge Place Pub (formerly the Full Moon Saloon) having a pint. Seems he couldn't get a seat in his OWN bar!!

Whistle Stop Ale House - [4-15-05] The Whistle Stop in Renton has moved and no pool table. Still has a good selection of beer and a good menu. Check their web site at: http://www.whistlestopalehouse.com/ [Thanks for the update, Jim]

[11-04-00] The Whistle Stop Ale House is a great smoke free bar that you have listed, I would like to just give my compliments to them for being helpful and friendly, as they came in early for us and had one of their bartenders act in a training video we put together. [Thanks Colin of Metro/KC Public Health

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite places in the south end. Excellent brew served properly, great (if simple) food, and regular brewery showcase nights make it a great place to hang out or meet people for a relaxing evening.

P.S. - They have a pool table.

P.P.S - Always have Guinness on tap!

Great Place. Definitely still smoke-Free. Right across from the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train Station. Great Sandwiches and good selection of micro-brews. Staff is friendly and service is good! Definitely worth checking out. [Thanks, Kathy]

Winthrop Brewing Company - Located on the main street of Winthrop just west of the main intersection. The beer is excellent (at least the porter I tried) and from others' comments the food is good too. Great place in the summer with the large deck and beer garden behind the pub and overlooking the river. Beer to go is available. Curt K. [Thanks Curt]

The Wylde Thyme - The Wylde Thyme in the Historic Monte Cristo Building, 1509 Wall Street in Everett, is 100% smoke free. They have music on occasion, an excellent menu... nice place for a romantic evening. [Thanks to Rebecca Ryan, Snohomish Health District / Project ASSIST]
